National Crime Victimization Survey
A primary source of data on criminal victimization, this ongoing survey samples 76,000 households on the frequency, characteristics and consequences of criminal victimization in the United States. The most recent data available is 2008; the survey began in 1973. With this survey, the Bureau of Justice Statistics can estimate the likelihood of victimization by rape, sexual assault, robbery, assault, theft, household burglary, and car theft for the entire population, as well as by specific group, such as city dwellers or the elderly.
