HCUPnet is a free, on-line query system based on data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). It provides access to health statistics and information on hospital inpatient and emergency department utilization, including for mental health and for children. This database is searchable by state, and is managed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has created a tool to help consumers or researchers compare hospitals. Search by zip code or city and state, and by “general,” “medical conditions” or “surgical procedures.”
