Webinar: Free and Low-cost Technology Resources

Thursday, May 17, 2012 | 12:00 – 1:00pm | Free Webinar

Presenter: John Sarvey, Executive Director, School of Public Policy & Urban Affairs

In this informal webinar we covered a handful of very useful technology resources that are available for free or at very low cost.

Participants were also invited to share great tools that they have found useful.

This session covered:

  • Google: docs, groups, and calendar (there are more google tools but we’re just covering these three for now)
  • Filesharing: Dropbox
  • Email Broadcast Management: Vertical Response, MailChimp, and possibly Constant Contact
  • Website Content Management: Word Press

Recording of the webinar:

Note: I did some post-recording editing, mainly removing various sections of the video that weren’t necessary. In a few places, it makes the video appear to be choppy. That’s the result of my first time editing and not a technical glitch with the video.

To log into the webinar go to: http://nu-policyschool.adobeconnect.com/techwebinar-05-17-12 and log in as a guest. Be sure to enter your full name and not just your first name.

You will obviously need a computer screen to see the visual and speakers to hear the audio. If you have a microphone, you will be able to speak during portions of the webinar. If you do not have a microphone, you can still participate but will need to rely on entering comments and questions via chat.

There might be portions of the webinar where I mute the microphones on all participants (maybe). During that time, you can click on an icon to “raise your hand.”

This is the first time I am actually doing a webinar-based training. I’m going to keep it somewhat informal and conversational. And I invite comments and suggestions about additional technological resources that I don’t cover but that you’d recommend.

One more thing. Because we’ll be covering a range of different tools, we won’t be able to spend a subtantial amount of time going deep on any one of them. I am considering doing a second technology-related webinar on the topic of wordpress as a website content management tool.
