Rosanna Cavanagh

Rosanna Cavanagh is the New England First Amendment Coalition’s first executive director. Formerly of Boston-based law firm Ropes & Gray, where she concentrated in public finance and private equity work, she also was active in the Boston community as a board member, treasurer and co-chair of the fundraising committee for Everybody Wins Metro Boston, a literacy and mentoring organization.

Ms. Cavanagh received her JD-MBA from Cornell Law School and Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, with concentrations in business law and regulation and investment banking, respectively. She was an Associate and then Editor of the Cornell Law Review from 2002-2004 and is a member of the Cornell Law School Chapter of the Order of the Coif.

Ms. Cavanagh got her start with non-profit organizing at Harvard University, where she received her BA in History. She was co-director for Phillips Brooks House program, Partners for Empowering Neighborhoods, an adult education program in Bromley Heath and Mission Hill housing developments, and co-founded and directed a gang violence prevention program, Project UNITY in conjunction with the BELL Foundation. After writing a thesis on Chicago Public School reform, Ms. Cavanagh became a certified teacher in the Massachusetts school system, teaching Civics and Math at City On A Hill Public Charter School. She also went abroad to teach History at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogotá, Colombia.
