Part 2: The price of public information in Abington, Mass.

By Chazy Dowaliby, editor, The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, Mass., and The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass.

Three days after The Enterprise story ran on Nov. 19, along with a sidebar on Abington’s response to the public records request, Abington Police Chief David Majenski sent me a note with two summary facts about his town’s traffic stops and an explanation that our reporter’s records request was unclear. Now that he saw what we wanted, he could comply, at least in summary, without charge.

I thanked the chief and expressed regret about the delay since all other departments queried were not confused by the request and were able to comply without delay.
