Little Rock Directors Repeal 1957 Declaration

A 1957 declaration by Little Rock city directors supporting Gov. Orval Faubus’ intervention at Central High School and criticizing President Dwight Eisenhower’s actions following Faubus’ actions has been repealed by the current board.

The 1957 document said that immediate integration of the school was not in the best interest of race relations and was adopted Sept. 30, 1957, after Eisenhower, 10 days earlier, federalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent 101st Airborne Division troops to enforce the integration of nine black students at Central High.
