Larry Payne

Background

On March 28, 1968, sixteen year old Larry Payne was the lone victim of the violence that followed Martin Luther King’s sanitation worker’s march. Payne was killed by a shotgun blast fired by patrolmen as he emerged from a basement in a housing development. King had planned to visit Payne’s mother after his death, but he was killed.
